Get Active & Rewards with Active SG

Hi folks, it been long that I publish new article due to wedding preparation :p. No excuses today I will be sharing about the ActiveSg launching originally by Singapore Sports Council. Finally government have gave everyone (citizens and prs) $100 to play sports around Singapore! So you got what excuse not to exercise now?

However this time round I am not attending the new launches but as a voluntary helper to assist on program planning and wttwid activities (what they told, what I do). Been heavily involved in work for long time, it's time to let me have a break - by doing something useful! (Rest time still "work", I am hopeless -.-).

A quick introduction about ActiveSg - "A Singapore Sport Portal with sports news, events calendar as well as facilities and coaches directory for everyone to watch and play sports" (the description is really from s to sssss, don't make your tongue twist).

A quick summary about Active Sg:
Basically they will create the new membership program for you (if you have the old Singapore Sports Council membership you will still need to register again - at this point of time I was though the old side been hacked or what).

Also to promote their Active Sg mobile apps for easier booking and course reservation. It happened that they even sent out demo apps for existing member to test out. -.- will it introduce loop hole for hacker? Similar with the national day ballot system. Anyway more to talk about it.

Sharing about the news about latest sports event in Singapore, I am active but not sports news geek so will skipped this portion. They also discuss a lot about the sea games here.

Health tips and tricks ... Hmm...

(Must Read) Want to Stop Unwanted Marketing Call? Welcome to DNC Registry!

Have you get annoyed by unwanted “Sales Call”? You will experience this once you get out of your studies and start to apply your first credit card.
It came out more frequent especially you gotten your new insurance policy, memberships, etc services (by all means anything that required your contact number).

Like for me, phone call like this: “Good morning sir, this calling from xxx company – are your convenient to talk for 3 minutes?”
Or this: “Congratulation Mr. Adam – you been our loyal customer from xxx bank. We wish to offer you a better protection plan…”
And this: “Hi Mr. Chua – we are from xxx fitness, your friend has referral to us to give your this 3 days fitness membership…”
Or even this: “You have won a 3 days SPA treatment with no obligation to sign up or payment for FREE!”

Or this: “Uncle, do you want to buy washing powder?” (This really happen =.=)

Marketing call even go towards, SMS, and IM (Instant Messenger) Annoyed by unsolicited calls and messages from telemarketers? Then you'll be pleased to know that the "Do Not Call (DNC) Registry" is going to kick off soon! (Already launch Starting from 2 Dec 2013) You can register your number with the new DNC Registry to prevent organisations from contacting you via calls, SMS/MMS, or faxes without your clear consent.

Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA), organisations will have to check with the DNC Registry to ensure that they do not send unsolicited telemarketing messages to consumers who have registered.

Getting in SPH for the Discussion

Here are some of the sharing from the Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore.

Some points that will be addressed in the session, includes: -

What is the DNC Registry? - How will it work to prevent me from getting unsolicited telemarketing calls/messages? - (I can't wait to register!) How do I add my number to the DNC Registry? - After registering with the DNC Registry, will I still receive calls/messages from telemarketers that I'm currently hearing from? Below also have a short Q&A segment at the end of the sharing session within PDPA and the BLOGGERS.

Starting from OMY- Janet introduction about the disturbance and the problem people faced during the daily SMS and phone call from sales.

Handout of the Day
The mic goto Debra explain about the PDPC background.

Personal Data Protection Act - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNTjFsEOeR4
Under PDP Act (video).

Personal Data like "Employment date, family history, financial, relationship etc" been populate in the general public without knowingly. All these information used by government at the daily basis.

So wondering all these, is this "Singapore Only" rules? Actually, this act also is according International Standard that already introduce around the world. This also to prevent the organization to have more correct usage of your personal data.

Overall, your personal data can be more control and access and reduce telemarketing messages.

There are 3 services provide by the DNC Registry
1. - No voice call registry
2. - No text message registry
3. - No fax number registry.

3 Simple Methods
All the business organization, before they make telemarketing call (they will need to check from 2nd Jan 2014 onward). Their contact number need to be seen and can't be be hide (No Anonymous Call) .

So you can follow the Steps 1,2,3 below to register:

Currently, after you register your number - within 60 days the existing non DNC Reg marketing company still able to contact you (as there is a grace period for them).  Then 2nd July 2014 onward, it will be changing to 30 days. Service marketing call from oversea currently is not applicable (Foreign business entity).

PDPC also backed by CASE and NLB,  they are the base agent and will publish the the acts and running a lot of similar publication. DNC Registry via Phone, email & SMS Easiest way is SMS -DNC and will never expired until you de-registered or change a phone line.

Do Not Call Registry for Consumers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FjTZq1WGnA

So here the DRC Commissioning member - Amos Tan VERSUS Bloggers on a very "TARGETED" Discussion

As this Topic mainly to raise awareness - for public to opt in to the services.

So the comprehensive Q&A question STARTS HERE?

1. Question:
Will the org to be block or the whole telco Like different products ? From SingTel - if they do have your consents -
Answer: YES.

2. How to define the clear consent?
Answer: Like shop put up a statement. It need to have the documentation.
For example, if I don't put the number - the marketing business can do what they currently do on you on marketing messages.
Like loan shark (SMS), some of the law will enforce to them even they need to check if is small. Most of the sales message having the unsubscribe reply- it's a requirement on a different control act (already in for the marketing). DNC will having the rights to block it. Even it change to other phone number, it will block it (The whole organization).

3. Is there a different If the consent to one agent, or given to the company? E.g. I want the agent A to contact me but not the company A.
Answer: It can go with the individual and block the general company. If your block for the SMS or IM like whatsapp, mms, line. all will be stop.
Frustration From the Marketing Call

4. So how a merchant to make use of this and get the proper consent?
Answer: A thick box and the submit button on the website or form for people to thick and sign.

Comments From Janet - Example running a cleaning service (contact number as individual public). She still will receive call, as consumer to "Organisation" will not be block.

So for a official complain channel, if want to complaint there is a need to get some information with additional steps to file a report. The forfeited company is regardless of the phone number they use. A charge of $1000 - $10000 penalty for violations. Consumer will need to pay to do tele marketing call, nominal cost recovery basis.

5. Do the company want to check for the number needed to pay?
Answer: Yes. The company will need to change the credit up to 500 numbers - pay one time registration fees of S$30.00 and will get this for per annual basis.
For the Payment Mode 1 , the charging is 1 credit for 1 number.
For Payment Mode 2, per use basis want 1000 for 1000.

6. Is friendly type of calling? Marketing partner, can they call me? Is the recruiter consider tele marketing call? What is in and what is out?
Answer: Donation is also out. The important is the "Nature of the Call" Business call from business to business is valid. The business call or SMS or the product and the services that related to local beneficial

7. Is the Skype consider a blockage?
Answer: No- not Singapore registered company is not under the law. However,  the end result is the company not suppose to call but not totally can't call.
According to the spam control act.

8. Is more Act will come concrete for future phases?
Answer: Maybe for the phase 2, yes.

So for the conclusion - This wrapper up with: For the company, just always focus to get the consents of your client. As for consumer, this DNC Register just a blanket to marketing call (It's not a HARD CODE SYSTEM that automatically filter out the sales message). So for each individual, you need to take responsibility of your own personal data on the permission giving to the company. Example for the lucky draw form on the website.

Ending Dinner :D

Hope you all enjoy the reading! Cheers!

Check out the Singapore Blog Awards 2013!

Long Awaited! It's been around 3n 1/2 months from 24th Mar I attended the Omy.sg Pre-start of blog awards. Let's recap on what is the Singapore Blog Awards. It's a child born campaign by Singapore Press Holdings - Omy.sg to show appreciation to the creative, good and informative blogs around Singapore. For the judging criterial was based on 30% of voting and others from judges and sponsors, the competitive is quite challenging. The last selection will be out of the selection of 10% of the total candidates. For most of the categories also consist some additional judging criteria before the last selection. So other than the first 3 blog post submitted, the contestant also required to blog about 3 other topics that the sponsors suggested. Despite the competitive challenges, there are more participation than before. There are amazing prizes and cash rewards, but also invaluable publicity, exposure and media power to drive a lot of traffic even sponsors to the contestant. If you try to get something out off blogging, these definitely worth the effort! This was already the 6th times Omy.sg organized the events - brand under Social Media Fiesta that initiate by government. While the advancing of the technology, social media became an influencing platform to share about individual thoughts and ideas. Leverage on all the social media tools like Facebook, twitter, YouTube etc to deliver their message, image and also video to the public that almost immediate. Blogging also became a source of channel that shares the social news and culture exchange to other country.

Some of you maybe have this question in mind- before I share the events happening, it is,"what the hack is blogging - in Singapore?". There are all sort of bloggers like fashion, food, travel, lifestyle etc...what differentiate them? Is blogger some sort of "alien" cause not everyone is doing the same? This explanation from my personal thoughts -" Bloggers are bunch of passionate people that willing to expose and share their wonderful moment to the general public in social media manner. " Some characteristics I see so far including myself are, "We are fun loving people, daring to say, passionate about stuffs, shy in some extend, appreciative, likes to feedback, likes to share, having personal thoughts" type of people.

Although there do have a lot likes to complaints, bluffs - it just human nature!
Kay, let's get start with the blogger awards! (Although my blog didn't went through, thanks Omy.sg to invite me to the event last minutes)

This round, the event is held at Clark Quay - Shanghai Dolly. It's actually quite a convenient location (just behind the taxi stand along river valley road). However, being an old timer (non clubber) it took me a while to reach there. It's a face palm when you saw such a big banner also can missed it.

Seeing the familiar face Alvin standby and the door and Janet at the register counter - I am rest assured reached the right place (double confirmed).

Everyone were given a SBA2013 magnet and the contestant catalog at the entrance.

Awards Booklet! Nice!
SBA60 Magnet (Door Gift)!

Presenting by Panasonic and Main Sponsors by exabytes(love this hosting),UBL, Levi's (Sexy jeans), Nanyang Optical (Fashion Cyclops), Qoo10( yahoo best Internet shopping), Auntralia outbreak(I wish I can go), Shaw (You need to know I visit you twice a month), celio, denizen (I love your shirt), dockers, new look, glossi and Shanghai dolly(you get my virgin visit)
Before the event, thanks all the sponsors that make it happen, you all are awesome!
The brains that make the event so nice, Rui Long, Siew Kian, Janet (most lovely lady), Alvin (wth the guru leaving SBA), Chim Kang, Easter, Yu Xi, Shang De, Mingcai, Wenbiao, Hock Chuan, Eunice (someone special), Weiding, Lin Wan and Powei! The design all these sexy booklet, prepare for the event, marketing, publication, that burning their passion to make a successful event - big applause to them (find some chance to blog about them too)
Look insideThe creative booklet design

After the gate keeper wrapped the entry tag, we're free to go! There photos taking booth and interview corner setup that crowded with people. Probably I will skipped the photo taking first.
Photo Taking Booth, Enjoy the props
Interviewing Corner
The path way towards the stage were decorated with all the blogging history and some popular bloggers article, quite interesting. The deco of Shanghai Dolly really suitable for today's theme "the 60's". The whole building structure with authentic "Shanghai Tan" kinda feeling.
Agogo styles of 60's

It's slightly dimmed in the hall and crowded with 60's dressed bloggers. The trend is like Alfredo hair style, bling dress, hair band, big glasses and shorts (Singapore 60's style). I myself was also wearing like a geek, haha.
This how good boy Adam looks! Old already!

Forgive my TR100.. I though I only need to shoot few people, not the 300 "Spartan".
It started around 2:00pm with sweet MC introduction, the guest of honour Mr Lawrence, and the the director of Lian He Zhao Bao. There were more than 100 blog entry per categories and only 10 of them managed to go in.
Welcome the SVIP Guess of Honour mr Lawrence Wong to be seated in front me, I am "stand-ed" just behind him.

I am trying to "assault" and shoot the VIP in front however, beside me have a lot "big gun shooting (Gigantic Canon,  Nikon lenses). I was hardly able to move.

This is where I "Stand-ed".
Getting everyone warm up with the humble speeches. Blogging became more and more interesting, the competition and standard were extremely better than previous year! Good Job!

My Favorite News Paper "Lian He" vp Mr. Chua

Prize and awards presentation was sort according to the sponsors hence it's easier for them to give out all prizes. Starting from Panasonic, Exabytes, Levi's, so and so fort.
Karen having quite a hot dress here, probably also "murdered" a lot if camera memory.

I am still wondering whether the small thing is it alive?
There goes another camera "murderous" back view by Karen.

Smile!

He proved that you no need to be sexy, hansom to be a good blogger. Just need to be talent :)

Sakura ninja girls (Nearly gang Mr.Lawrence - happily)

Tubing real live even on the awards! Good job!

Best Micro Blog

It's really funny when they reading out loud one and another blog name, like "xxx-is-a-handsome-guy". You only can hear people laugh like mad afterwards. However, some sense of humor that I can't catch in my age...

Bar for VIPs
Most of the people are blogging about whose the winner, hence this round I targeting on what happen around the event. (No idea, I don't have a good chance to walk near the beauties and it's too embarrassing to act friendly strangely - it will makes me like "ham sap" uncle. Adam -> Stay's low.

The Rilakku mask is really cute, is it someone I know? Elgena Hearts???
She is Elgena Hearts

At least someone "observed" my existence.. 囧 -Not very friendly

Alfredo hair Style do catch attention, although I catching Alvin below

Some family supporter, that cheering for their friends real loud

Skipped till the front to catch up some interview. Grace really looks "dolly" in pink, it gave a totally different feeling compare to her formal interview. She really cute!

Always thought Maybeline is a "guai guai girl" type, yet she really can play (don't play play).
Most people come in couple, family and even whole gangs. Few of them were solo old bird like me (even so, they accompany themselves with others). So far I knew some of the cute girls around but for a big guy like me - still quite awkward to hang around with the ladies.

They can really dress up!

While walking around the hall way, while finding for some candid shoot to blog about - however failed (attracted by the buffet table - can't help with the empty stomach). The catering was quite nice, Salmon sushi, cheese cakes, grilled chicken, fried scrimps etc were excellent! Since going to eat anyway, my habits is have it while the food is still hot!
Someone is faster...

Sorry healthy green (I forget to take anyone of you)

The cakes at the left actually quite nice (the cake for the blog award 6 years celebration?)
Other than the VIPs, there also special guest like Jack Neo (Local Movie Director) and few celebrities and famous designer in the hall -due to the bad photos will skip for posting.

Jack is very keen to explain on his idea about the bloggers and express interest for more collaboration. Ah Boy to Man that hit great was one of the results.
The event getting heated up when reaching the end of the prize awards, which is the best 60's dressed up competition! Check out the video for the funniest moment! (One and Only!)

The "Aneh" Police is the winner! Hahaha..."Inspector Singh"! Who this special lady?

The grand finale end with group photos of the top categories winners with VIPs.
Congratulation ALL!

Close Up 1

Group with Special Categories!

Close up 2

Catching someone in the center

Last huggy by Grace Tan with the Sakura Ninja Girls!
Last that I manage to solo take a photo with and my own candid photo shoot.
Uncle also can! Don't play play!

With Tselyn - very cheerful lady (she get in to the top ten of the music blog, congrates!)

The summary of the goodies bag (gave before go back, check it out!)

Exabyes $50, Dockers $70, Nanyang Optical $30, Denizen $40, Newlook $25, Levi's $50, Celio $20! Expired at end of the year 2013!

Note book! By Shaw - Is it an old movie -.- Like 2 years ago?

Panasonic Batteries and name tag!

Do you miss the cookies? It's at www.biscuitking.com.sg (This an unique one)

Thanks again for Omy.sg to prepare this wonderful event! (Also note that this is Alvin last time to prepare the Singapore Blog Awards - so such a waste, thanking him for all the Efford and all the best going up to SPH)
